Operation Mildew

Currently on a special taskforce called Operation Mildew. Though it has been ongoing for some time, seems the enemy (cursed mildew) has great resistance. Shall have to multiply efforts and work out backup plans!

Err... no I am not babbling nonsense. Having our walk-in wardrobe just outside our bathroom is a great convenience but also with added disadvantages. Mildew has started to appear on the ceiling of the wardrobe, also on leather belts, some of our bags and thick jackets. I guess moisture from the bathroom condensed on the cooler surfaces of the wardrobe. So we have started to ensure we close the bathroom door after we shower. But then another problem arises because of that. All the heat generated from the hot water gets trapped in the bathroom and mildew has started to appear on the pipes. We also dun really use the aircon or open our windows, and the moisture and humidity gets stuck within and becomes food for mildew. It's really frustrating seeing whitish/greenish spots appear, with a foul odour too.

I really had enough with all these mildew! I had to take drastic action. Scrubbed the spots on the ceiling during one very precious public holiday. And placed more "Hungry Hippo" and other "moisture absorbers" into the wardrobe. Also threw away some of the old belts and bags which seems hopelessly infected already. Removed the infected items to prevent spreading to other clothes. Hmm... still yet to remove some of the mildew from them!

Did some online search and consulted my frens on how to deal with this "menace". Here are the tips I gleaned:

* Really got to increase air circulation around the area. Thus, have to on the air-con once in a while to air-dry the area or open the windows.

* Reduce moisture. Therefore, got to ensure clothes are fully dried before putting them into the wardrobe. Also, not to hang our bath towels in the bathroom but air-dry them out in the open.

* Continue to remove mildew everytime they appear. Sweep them off clothes, etc outside the house as they are spores which can grow when they land on other surfaces.

* Use dehumidifiers, silica gel, etc to get rid of moisture in the air.

If you guys have more tips, please share! Hopefully I will have good news soon on how I conquered the enemy!

Ee-lin's Wedding

Ee-lin and Edward's wedding was beautiful, filled with lots of joy and love!

Their page boy is extremely smiley and cute! He even did a huge grin just for the videographer!

It was held at Wesley Methodist, at its very charming and sweet chapel!

See the excited bride! Ee-lin was extremely 'high' during her wedding. Have always known her as a more reserved gal but she was babbling almost incoherently during the thank you speeches and even did quite an energetic dance during her 2nd entry at the wedding dinner. Dance? Yah dance! My sec sch frens and I realised this was the first time ever we have seen her dance!! Actually I think this is the first time I have seen any bride dance for their entrance! You are very brave Ee-lin! =D

Cupcake tier! They aren't cheap btw!

Had a great time catching up with the gals! How far we have come! In Carilyn's words, soon we will be attending each other's baby showers! Hmmm... hopefully later than sooner!! =D

Food Critic

On Saturday morning, had a bit of time and decided to cook brunch. Nothing spectacular, just stuff from my limited repertoire. Omelette with cheese and hot dogs. Well, since I am the cook, I can be more critical with my cooking. I must first of all disclaim that cooking is not natural or intuitive to me. I know some people who dun need to look at a recipe and can somehow whip up a delicious meal. I am sadly not one of them! =(

Food critic's comments
- I had only 3 eggs left and somehow I just couldn't figure out how I was going to divide them into 2 omelettes so I cooked one big one. Quite a lot of eggs being cooked in 1 small pan such that the reverse side was kinda runny. Later my hubby pointed out to me that I had cracked the three eggs into 1 bowl and could have just divided the mixture into 2 portions and cook separately. Oh ya hor! "Duh!"

- I had just took the hot dogs out from the freezer and they were cold hard frozen. I decided to heat them up first by pouring boiling water over them and then frying them. The hot dogs turned out kinda hard and my hubby once again asked me if I had defrosted the hot dogs? Err.. well I heated them up with hot water, should have defrosted already right? Hmmm....

Ya. So you get the idea! I am hopeless at cooking! But it is very weird cos no doubt I am bad at cooking, I have this fascination with cooking. I love to check out cookery books and watch cooking shows. Somehow I dream of one day cooking fantastic meals in the kitchen, receiving lots of compliments and my children boasting of my cooking! That one day cooking would be as natural to me as brushing my teeth... well one is free to dream right? =D

Anyway, I saw Jamie Oliver's new book, Ministry of Food, and I am definitely getting it. Just waiting for a book sale to come along! =) I love what the cover says "Anyone can learn to cook in 24 hours". There are lots of glossy colour photos for illustration and it's really a book just for clueless aspiring cooks like me!!

By the River

I love working so close by the River. Sometimes when I feel down or stressed, I will just take a short walk along the River or sit at one of the benches and just relax. Recently due to F1 season, there was also a Singapore River Festival with beautifully lit up water floats and ever-changing lights at the bridge.

"...giving thanks always for all things..."
