Happy Happy Birthday Hubby!! (Part 1)

This week was a super busy week at work due to the upcoming SALE. One night I worked till 2am in the office, then went back home to work some more! Super tiring! And I am not done yet! Still more work awaiting me when Monday rolls around!

But well, at least my fun colleagues help make the work so much more manageable! This week we played a trick on a colleague who was down with flu. Check it out below!!

Hhahah! Yah, it ‘s a face mask especially for his desktop!! Wahahah!

And of cos, I took half day to celebrate my dearest hubby’s birthday! =) His birthday celebration started on Tue night after Leaders’ Meeting. I surprised him with a Thomas the Train Mini Cake! And he was very pleased! Hahha! Cos it reminds him of his fav nephew, Jayden =)))

Then it was Treasure Hunt time!

Based on the clue card, he had to find where his present was hidden! After some prompting from me, he found it!

Then it’s time for a 2nd card, but no present this time lah! It’s just details how we are going to spend the next day together!

The actual day

We wanted to try the Dim Sum buffet at Yum Cha recommended by Jerb. It’s located at Chinatown area and as we were too early so we walked around t0 explore. And we saw this cute little stone carved bench that Dear said we should buy and put at our door….. hmmmm!!!

Then it was time to Yum Cha! The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of a shophouse and it has a nice atmosphere but of course most people were more interested in gobbling down the food!

The moment we sat down, the wait staff started to push their trolleys over and rattled off the food items they had on hand. So we just said “Ok, err.. ok …” without really thinking! It was quite a spread!

Some dishes were ok, some … really awful! I think their deserts and fried stuff are yummy but their xiao long bao …….. !!!! Maybe we should have been more selective on what we chose or just order off their menu rather than take those that were “forced” on us. Also, we concluded that we shan’t go for buffet again cos we surely lose out! Only after maybe 5 dishes, we were actually feeling full already! We have small appetites! So we came out with

5 Ways to Get Rid of Buffet Food

1) Bite into them and leave the half-eaten food on your plates. Surely they can’t charge you for food you couldn’t finish cos it just tasted so bad!!!

2) Throw out the window! Make sure you get a window seat!

3) Use tissue paper

Step 1: Place the food on the tissue paper

Step 2: Carefully wrap it up

Step 3: Viola! It’s done!

4) Bring along a plastic bag just in case

If the food is good, can taobao! If bad, can use as a trash bag!

5) The most ingenious idea of all, thought of by none other than my genius husband – hide it in the tea pot!

Disclaimer: you can try the above ideas but dun say you got them from us!!!

To be continued……

Triple Celebration

On Saturday, we had a triple celebration to celebrate Mothers’ Day, Joe’s and Joann’s birthday! We first had a sumptuous dinner at the zichar store near our store! Really lots of food! And I had salted egg crab and also crab cooked with cheese! Woohoo, the cheese one was kinda milky and really tasty!

The kids also had lots of fun pasting their stickers onto Shu Shu’s arm!

Sweet Tunes from the Radio

Every morning, I start my work day being accompanied by Glenn Ong, Vernetta Lopez and the Flying Dutchman on Class 95. Their quirky comments really help to kick start the day. Glenn is the ego guy, always commenting that he is the most handsome guy around, FD more of the voice of reason and Vernetta is so much funnier with the guys than when she hosted by herself. As the day progresses, the music will just fade into the background....

But lately, two songs caught my ear... yes, firstly due to the fact that they are played like 3-4 times a day... but secondly cos they are really catchy and sung by such sweet voices...

Bitter Heart - Zee Avi

You will never realise how kinda sad the lyrics are just by hearing the song.. her voice's so light-hearted and cheery... and know what? She's a Malaysian whose videos were spotted by a record company on Youtube and will be releasing an album really soon. Really like this song!

The Show - Lenka

She's an Australian.. and I love the music video.. it's so whimsical!

Shining Stars

Ok I know that this is super outdated.. The biggest upset of this year's MediaCorp Star Awards on 26 April was Joanne Peh winning the Best Actress Award instead of the supposedly shoo-in Jeanette Aw. Maybe you were one who protested the win as well! Well, I checked out Joanne Peh's blog entry (English version) on the win and her comments showed how shocked she was as well at winning the award. In retrospect, I would say she has come a long way and she deserved to win. Jeanette was expectedly reticent on the win but I think she has been well rewarded in other ways through product endorsements, a starring role in an upcoming musical, fans' support….

Also, a big CONGRATS to my fellow church member, Belinda Lee, for winning the first ever Best Infotainment Host award! Read about her thoughts on winning the award here.

And how can I forget to mention the biggest star of all, SUN?!! Her blog is not so updated these days but you can add her on Facebook www.sun-ho.com/fanpage and Twitter http://twitter.com/sun_ho for the latest updates!

Sun looks super cool in this photo!

Mother’s Day Out

I remember when my sis and I were young, Mum would bring us out after church service and enjoy two of her favourite activities – have a good meal and shop! Oh yes, and not forgetting taking photos as well! So we decided that was how we were going to celebrate Mothers’ Day as well!

First stop: Curry Favor at Stamford House

We love the place cos it’s cosy and quiet and the food’s not bad too. If you do pay a visit, try the Age Cheese Chikuwa, it’s the white tube-like fish food item we have for Yong Tau Foo but deep-fried and stuffed with cheese! I love it!

AgeCheeseChikuwa

We had a hearty lunch, and also shared some gossip about the latest current events like “AWARE”. We all ought to read the newspapers more often =p!

Pg1

Second stop: Peranakan Museum at Armenian Street

The museum is housed in a well-preserved colonial building which used to be the old Tao Nan school building. The exhibits were interesting and the Peranakans really have very rich heritage. But I think no museum can make Peranakan culture more alive than The Little Nonya drama serial.

Pg2

We were expecting more interactive displays, maybe live Nonya cooking demonstrations, sampling of Nonya Kueh Kueh, how Nonya culture has evolved in modern times and at least some mention of The Little Nonya? Well, well… some suggestions the NHB can think about!

Third Stop: Iluma at Bugis

This newly opened shopping mall still had many stores not open. We didn’t find the shops very interesting and the whole place was very dark! Not very keen to go back there!

IMG_2030

Fourth Stop: Bugis Junction

Went to take a break at TCC. Though we wanted to recharge, the drinks took a long time! Until we just had to…..

Pg4

Fifth Stop: Ann Siang Hill & Erskine Road

Now totally refreshed, we made our way to Tanjong Pagar area to check out some cool shops.. sadly though some of the shops were closed already. Ann Siang Hill area is kind of a hipper version of Haji Lane. Must check the area out!

Pg5

Sixth and Last Stop: Hyang-to-gol at Amara Hotel

My mum likes this Korean restaurant pretty much and it’s my 3rd time there! The side dishes are generous and the food delicious! I was much too tired to take any more pics!

IMG_2048

So we had a really eventful Day Out and I hope Mummy enjoyed herself! I shall end off with this:

IMG_2009

Mummy! Words really cannot express the heartfelt gratitude I have towards you. When I watched the Mother’s Day drama, I knew you experienced many of the emotions shown on stage – that of joy, pride, love and also anger, frustration, helplessness, maybe even loneliness. Yet you went through all of that because you loved us! Your unconditional love is really a demonstration of God’s great love to me as well! I pray that I will make you proud and when people see me, they will know that I have a great mother!

Mothers’ Day – have you planned something yet?

This week at cg, we did something very different and very special for our mothers!

IMG_0633
We took photos of ourselves to give to our mothers! You can click on my photo above to link to more photos taken during my cg! It was lots of fun and everyone was so excited!

My sis and I have already planned something fun for our dearest Mummy tomorrow! We will start the day at church and I know there’s gonna be a super special and touching drama. The rest of the day is top secret now cos I know my mum reads my blog too! Mum, if you are reading now, I wanna say I LOVE YOU LOTS!!

Words of Wisdom

flickr-words I like DPM Teo Chee Hean's comments on the whole AWARE issue, "I think there will always be differences in our society. It's a question of whether we can deal with that in a sensible way, learn to accept each other's differences and still work together for the community.

There are people in our society with different views. And there are views, when we push them too hard, there will be a push back from the other side. You are not going to resolve some of these differences because they are strongly held. And you risk polarising society if you push too hard.

I think if you believe what you are doing is right, live a good life, do good work and persuade people by what you do and how you live rather than by pushing your ideas on them in a more pushy way.”

My sister’s home is an artist’s studio!

Finally after a long long time, I went to my sis' place. First, some background info. When she first got married, her house was pretty bare. There was no sofa, no TV console, no dining table, no wardrobe. But she has been progressively adding stuff and now her place looks great. It has character and really expresses her and her hubby's personality. It looks like an artist's studio to me! Check out the pictures below!

They have a Roman column creating a “foyer” by the front door.

Paintings are done by Adriel, and he only started painting in the last 2 years!

Another painting by Adriel!

I love this pair of “Adam” and “Eve” paintings!

The very “country” Ikea kitchen!

They bought the "branch" settee and the TV console from The Helping Hand - only S$500 for both. Very good deal!

Btw, Adriel has an art supplies business and you can buy art supplies on his online site too at Overjoyed.com - show your support!

So Adriel, you gonna do up a pair of “Adam” and “Eve” paintings for me? =p
